Some fundamentals of online communication for companies

Our company works with all kinds of people, from small communication agencies, to major international PR and marketing companies and well known brands. Therefore we have a need to be up-to-date with all aspects of these industries. After hearing some very interesting things from Weber Shandwick’s international bosses when were chatting with them the other day, we thought we would share some of our ideas about fundamentals of online communication today.

We think that companies, if they want to survive in the future need to be looking at what the latest social marketing trends are in the US and think how they can adapt for their very own marketing and PR needs. What is happening now in the US with regards to social media marketing, is what we will be seeing here in Spain within 6-12 months. Traditional means of communication are out of fashion and are very ineffective. Communication needs to diversity to capture the attention of the public. In the world of business, one cannot be passive towards the arrival of social media and there is a need to find new and innovative ways to benefit from it.

Here in MEDIATOOLStv we love to see how companies are finding innovative ways of using social media. We like how El Corte Inglés is integrating buying products with geolocalisation on Facebook, through which customers can make savings. Another one we find very creative is the launch of a competition for the Davos World Economic Forum, in which the public can participate by making a video containing their ideas about world issues for the summit’s participants and upload it to YouTube. Recently the airline Iberia gave an iPad to each of their customer services employees at Madrid Barajas Airport to help improve customer experience.

As you will see, communication is becoming more complex; therefore it is ever more vital that we find exciting ways to connect with our public and to get them involved with campaigns. We hope we have managed to inspire you to get your company on board with social media through this article.
